• The Fund delivers grants to community sector organisations of between £5,000 and £10,000. Last year’s round delivered over £120,000 to 14 organisations.
• This year the Fund will align with the following UN Sustainable Development Goals to deliver projects in priority areas of arts & culture, sport, reducing anti-social behaviour, tackling violent crime, and supporting vulnerable adults.
Quintain and The London Community Foundation are today, Monday 17th August opening applications to The Wembley Park Community Fund which will provide grants and funding to local charities and voluntary groups. This year is the fourth year of the Fund which has provided £305,067 to 34 projects across Brent since its foundation in 2016.
The Fund is led by Quintain, the developer behind the transformation of Wembley Park, in partnership with the development’s key contractors Wates, McLaren, John Sisk & Son, and McAleer & Rushe.
The aim of the Fund is to make a difference to the lives of residents in Wembley Park and the surrounding area by encouraging community engagement, participation and place-making through a variety of community-led activities.
This year the Fund’s alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals will seek to help a wide cross section of society with priority given to projects that:
• Provide opportunities in the arts and culture
• Create opportunities through sports
• Reduce anti-social behaviour, the risk of harm and re-offending
• Reduce violent crime, including gang and knife crime
• Offer support for vulnerable adults, enabling them to remain independent and lead active lives
Previously funded projects have provided the local community with employment and work training, supported wellbeing, and sports activity. Last year the Fund enabled improvements to an employment rights clinic in Wembley, a Latin American cultural programme and sports coaching sessions.
James Saunders, Chief Executive Officer of Quintain, the developer behind Wembley Park said:
“This year has been particularly challenging for communities due to the devastating impact of Covid-19. I am proud that we are able to offer so many organisations in Brent meaningful support to ensure that even more local people will benefit from this Fund. This is just one of the ways we will continue to support the Brent community which has been such an integral part of the new creative neighbourhood we are delivering at Wembley Park.”
Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader, Brent London Borough Council, said:
“The Wembley Park Community Fund has a real effect across the Borough, supporting a wide variety of individual projects and those most in need. I encourage organisations in Brent to apply and look forward to seeing the fantastic work they produce.”
Grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 will be available to charities, community or voluntary organisations. Applications for grants are open from today and close on Monday 28th September 2020, successful applications will be announced in November.
