We’re reshaping urban living at Wembley Park through innovative, low‑carbon waste systems that create cleaner, smarter and more sustainable neighbourhoods.
At Wembley Park, we have embraced a long‑term partnership with Envac that places us at the forefront of sustainable urban regeneration in the UK. Since 2008, we’ve integrated Envac’s automated vacuum waste collection system across our 85‑acre masterplan, replacing traditional refuse bins and lorry‑dependent collections with a streamlined, underground solution that significantly enhances environmental performance.
Using a network of pneumatic tubes that transport waste at speeds of up to 70kph, the Envac system helps us reduce on‑street clutter, noise pollution and operational emissions. Once fully deployed, it is expected to eliminate around 700 tonnes of carbon every year by cutting refuse lorry movements by 90%—a major step forward in delivering low‑impact services for a high‑density neighbourhood.
Our residents now recycle five times more than the national average for apartment living, and the system has contributed to a 30% rise in local authority recycling rates. By making responsible waste behaviour simpler and more intuitive, we’re helping create long‑lasting, sustainable habits across our community.
Through early masterplan‑wide integration, we’ve enabled Envac to serve more than 5,500 homes, with the capability to process up to 6,000 tonnes of waste and recycling annually. The system has also released space equivalent to 237 car parking bays—unlocking land for high‑quality public spaces, additional retail and new landscaping.
Developments like Repton Gardens demonstrate what this approach enables: effortless waste segregation supported by rainwater harvesting, low‑flow fixtures and energy‑efficient design. Together, our work with Envac showcases how forward‑thinking infrastructure can shape greener, more liveable urban environments for the long term.
