London’s newest indoor market opens today, bringing together a community of independent and local merchants and makers, from fashion and food to homeware and wellness.
Eco-friendly products and design are a focus for a number of the new makers and sellers. Patoka will be the first Zero-waste, packaging-free store in north west London, selling a range of food, toiletry and cleaning products. Sustainable home fragrance brand, Lagom, creates plant-based, soy wax candles, scented using essential oils known for their therapeutic benefits. Duck Pond Market will bring together local, sustainable and ethical food, crafts, homeware and arts, as well as vintage and upcycled goods.
Chloë McGill, Founder of Patoka, says: “Wembley Park Market is exactly what London needs - a place that gives entrepreneurs, start-ups and designers the opportunity to showcase and sell their quality products in a really fun environment. It’s a privilege to have the opportunity to make it more convenient for Londoners to make sustainable choices, and we are in fantastic company with other like-minded brands.”
Wembley Park Market has also welcomed a number of independent bakers and sellers of sweet goods. These include Mokaya, a purveyor of luxurious, homemade single origin chocolate brownies and truffles, and local occasion cake-maker CherryDCakes, opening its first physical showcase with a specially-created, six-tiered cake depicting the Wembley’s iconic attractions.
Dionne & Cherrelle Kellman, co-founders of CherryDCakes, said: “As sisters who grew-up in Wembley, we set up CherryDCakes having grown-up baking with our grandmother and dad. Until now, the business has mainly been through word of mouth. Baking is an experience for the senses, so it is a proud moment that we can give even more people the chance to see, smell and taste our creations – and be able to do so in the area that we grew-up in.”
London Beard Company, a specialist barber, will provide its premium products and beard grooming services to visitors to the Market in need of an expert shave, whilst Wembley Park Makers Gallery and Workshop is a dedicated and evolving show space for makers, creators and artisans. Residencies will include makers of jewellery, ceramics, illustrations, sculptures, pens, fashion and accessories, and a workshop area will also offer the opportunity to run drop-in sessions, individual classes or monthly courses.
Wembley Park Market is inspired by the area’s market trade heritage, putting a 21st century twist on the traditional market model. A growing neighbourhood for North London, Wembley Park Market is the latest in a line-up of new shopping and leisure experiences, adjacent to iconic landmarks, Wembley Stadium and the SSE Arena, Wembley. It joins London’s largest Boxpark, home to independent street food and bars alongside shuffleboard, games and events, and London Designer Outlet, the capital’s leading fashion and lifestyle outlet shopping centre.
Matt Slade, Retail Director at Quintain, says: “In creating a new destination for London, Wembley Park Market is truly a unique and complementary addition to our existing offer and the London retail landscape. The way consumers shop has shifted, and Wembley Park Market has been designed to meet the needs of today’s shopper, which comprises an expected 20,000 residents living in Wembley Park, wider north London and Brent residents, day-out visitors and tourists. It’s an exciting addition to the local neighbourhood for residents of Tipi - Quintain’s lifestyle lifestyle-led rental management brand.”
In addition to the launch of Wembley Park Market, this summer will see an exciting array of cultural events and activities programme lined-up to further bring the local community together, including live music for International Busking Day, outdoor film screenings and music-themed pop-up art commissions by Baker&Borowski. Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre will also open this month in the former Fountain Studios and is set to be a new state-of-the-art cultural destination for the Capital.
