Wembley Park Community Fund launches second round of funding

Wembley Park Community Fund launches second round of funding

10 Apr 2018

  • Following the success of grants issued by the Wembley Park Community Fund in 2017, a new round of funding opens for applications today.
  • Up to £117,000 will be available for charities, community or voluntary organisations in Brent this year, an increase of more than £50,000 compared to last year’s pot.
  • The fund will deliver individual grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to be centred around three core themes – Better Places, Better Lives and Better Locally.
  • The exciting venture led by Quintain in partnership with The London Community Foundation, London Borough of Brent and contractors working in Wembley Park, aims to make a real difference to local residents.

Today, Quintain and The London Community Foundation announce the second round of funding for The Wembley Park Community Fund, a three-year programme which this year will provide grants of up to £117,000 for local people.

The Fund, which successfully distributed grants of £66,000 in 2017 and will this year increase the value by £51,000, is an exciting venture for Quintain, the developers behind the transformation of Wembley Park, in partnership with their key contractors Wates, McLaren, John Sisk & Son, and McAleer & Rushe. It will make a difference to local residents in Wembley Park and the surrounding area by encouraging community engagement and participation through funding a variety of community-led activities.

Grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 will be available to charities, community or voluntary organisations. The grants, which are open to applications until midday on 5th June 2018, will be centred around three core themes – Better Places – making Brent a great place to live, work and visit; Better Lives – supporting education, employment and good health and Better Locally – ensuring local networks and services work effectively.

To ensure that local people benefit from these grants, priority will be given to Brent residents and community organisations. 90% of beneficiaries of this year’s grant are to be from Brent, up from 75% last year. Wembley Park residents will also benefit from their own grass roots activities, as proposals for activities taking place in the Yellow Pavilion, Wembley Library and other spaces in the immediate area, including proposals engaging local people not currently involved in Wembley Park and projects involving children and young children and elderly or vulnerable adults, will be given priority.

The seven local recipients of last year’s round of funding included Youth Engagement Solutions Ltd., who deliver weekly football training sessions for young people in Brent; SAFFI, who provide English as a Second Language courses for adults in the borough; and Musicus, who are teaching  guitar to both adults and children at Yellow Pavilion. More details of the success of these grants, and all the others, will be provided later this year.

Angus Dodd, Chief Executive of Quintain, the developer behind Wembley Park said:

“Following the success of last year’s grants, we are pleased to announce the second round of funding and are increasing the size of the pot by over £50,000 this year, allowing more local people in Brent to take advantage of the Wembley Park regeneration. We are now encouraging local organisations to apply for funding of up to £10,000 in the next three months and look forward to reviewing the applications.”

Applications are now open, and will close on 5th June 2018. Those wishing to find out more information or to apply should visit: https://londoncf.org.uk/grants/the-wembley-park-community-fund.
